How Can I Sleep When My Mind Is Racing?

How Can I Sleep When My Mind Is Racing?

Our minds can be overstimulated when we want to rest. It can be hard to calm ourselves down.

You can slow everything down just by remembering three numbers:
4. 7. And 8.

  1. First, push the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth, and keep it there. (Trust me, it won’t be as weird as it sounds.)
  2. Breathe in through your nose as you count to 4.
  3. Hold that breath as you count to 7.
  4. Breathe out through your mouth as you count to 8.

Try and repeat these steps 4 times. You’ll find you feel calmer and more ready to sleep.
